Valentine’s or not, every woman has a bit of a femme fatale fantasy right? Forget it. With this gorgeous pink dress by Femme Luxe you’re bound to feel like ’60s screen siren.
I’m very particular about the shades of pink I can tolerate, mainly just blush and rose. As for hemlines, call me conservative but there is only one length for a woman over 40: the flattering midi. Especially if it comes in a bodycon fit. So this rose belted midi bodycon dress Angelica by Femme Luxe was an amazing find, and a steal at £17.99.

As for my rose bodycon number, the perfect place to take it for a spin (around in front of the camera) was on a pre-Valentine’s weekend getaway in Cheltenham. In one of the 13 individually decorated, retro and romantic rooms at No. 38 The Park, complete with a retro tiled bathroom, rotary phone by the bedside and a free standing bath tub, dressed in a fitted off-the-shoulder bodycon dress, I had my Marilyn moment. I challenge any woman to wear such a sleek number and not feel all dolled up to Hollywood glam, regardless of her surroundings.
Not wishing to clutter the contemporary chic feel of the dress, I accessorised minimally, opting for these grey court shoes by Turkish footwear brand Hotic. I wore a necklace by Marks and Spencer which definitely looks more expensive than it actually was. With just these two accessories, the look was complete. This beautiful Femme Luxe dress makes such a statement just by itself that it really needs to further embellishments.
If bodycon reminds you of painful memories from the turn of the century when bodycon meant the torturous process of squeezing your lady lumps into a highly structured contraption that sucked the life out of you and caused severe reduction in mobility, think again. This dress is fitted enough to tuck you in for a flattering silhouette but also with plenty of stretch and movement which means you can look dazzling without forsaking comfort. The wrap front design along with the addition of belted detailing also creates an illusion of a cinched waistline.
As I flaunted my figure in the retro bathroom, Vogue’ing for the camera and making the most of the winter light streaming through the blinds and posed on the king size bed, feeling like a Hollywood femme fatale, smized as I pretended to have a deep conversation on the phone and sat looking all moody and brooding in the tub simply because it was there, in my head I was really channelling Marilyn Monroe.
It was only after the first few sets of poses, I decided to see if a more demure look would work if I pulled up the shoulders and went for an more office-friendly or dinner-with-the-parents look. And voila! It actually worked. Feeling bold? Pair with a briefcase and courts and rock up to work in classy rose pink. Feel like covering up on a night out? No problem. Just accessorise with strappy sandals and a mini clutch, and you’re good to go.
If rose is not your colour, fear not. With wine, red, green and more traditional black and white, you’re spoilt for choice. I can just imagine the white version at an ‘all white party’ on the beach. If you really want to make a statement, you can opt for red. And wine sure does make for a classy look. For girls who like their LBDs, the black is always an option of course. I am already placing a few more orders.
As for my little rose number, it’s not just for Valentine’s of course. I am most likely going to re-rock it a few more times, be it a classy afternoon tea party or cocktails with the girls, or even a wedding, what with the wedding season just around the corner.
