Doggie’s day out: The Parks Trust Milton Keynes Big Doggie Do 2018

Our new town (50 years old and counting!) of Milton Keynes is the perfect place to live for dog owners. And there is no better proof than the Big Doggie Do, the ever popular dog fest organised by The Parks Trust. Every years everyone and their dogs (literally!) in MK gather for what promises to be a weekend of fun and festivities for our furry friends.

Doodles showed up nice and early to get a good seat

The 2018 edition of this spectacular dog fiesta took part on 26-27 May at Willen Lake South.  Two days of dogs shows, stalls and entertainment, open and free to enjoy from 12noon daily till 5pm.

This year’s event featured exciting new areas like have-a-go-agility and K9 Aqua Sport – a definite hit for dogs that enjoy a dip. Some doggies took to swimming like a Labrador to water, while others needed more encouragement.

Baxter was not content with just one tennis ball

The dogs of Milton Keynes were plenty – a range of different breeds, shapes, sizes from the itsy bitsy Chihuahuas and Pomeranians to the gigantic Newfoundlands and Tibetan Mastiffs.

The number of Cockapoos we spotted was sheer proof of just how popular this crossbreed has become.

You can’t sit with us

Whatever the breed, they had one thing in common though: they were all super cute.

There were a range of dog shows held between 1pm-5pm each day with series from The Waggiest Tail to the Most Appealing Eyes.

There were as many, if not more, dogs spectating as there were participating in the shows. Some sleeping in the shade, some hiding between owners’ legs.

The last show on day one was The Dog the Judge Would Most Like to Take Home. Saxon walked by Animals in Need aced this category. While the judges didn’t get to take this gorgeous rough haired collie home; the good news is he has a viewing booked already!

Animals in Needs were one of the charities who had a stall at the event. Others included Cats Protection, The Dogs Trust and Guide Dogs.

There were other stalls as well offering a range of pet goodies from leashes to harnesses to gifts for crazy dog people like yours truly.

Baxter’s Boutique who’s accessorised Doodles with her personalised bandanas since we discovered them at the MK Handmade and Vintage Fair last year. It was great to see familiar faces and finally meet Baxter, the handsome lad who’s been making us splash the cash.

It was also great meeting Debbie Greaves and Rob Angell who compiled A Dog Walker’s Guide to Milton Keynes. This book is a must-have for Milton Keynes dog owners offering easy to follow instructions to fourteen dog walking routes in MK. We also met the adorable Maisie who had inspired the book.

If you are a dog owner in Milton Keynes and missed the Big Diggie Do, fear not. The Parks and Canals Trust run monthly Woof Walks throughout summer. There are also a few other dog shows in and around Milton Keynes in the coming months:
